Alejandro Ingelmo has a knack for taking footwear to unexpected extremes. These aren’t what you think of when you envision cage shoes, yet they’re impossible to resist. With metallic accents and angular cutouts, Alejandro’s heels look like they’ve just been beamed in from the future. The icy Odysseys ($1,295) are definitely worthy of the trip their moniker suggests – most likely one whirling around the dance floor. Pair the shimmery scales with a trendy holographic clutch to really play with the space chic vibe. For something more wearable, go with the black suede and gold leather Colliders ($1,295). You could throw on the slicked up slingbacks with just about anything and look good. They’re cages you’ll never want to break free from. Available at Bloomingdale’s.
Nicole Kidman grabbed lunch in Cannes recently with her hubby while wearing a laid-back outfit that included some great summer sandals by Jimmy Choo. These sandals are summer essentials with their laser-cut suede straps, small heel and classic style. They pull on and off easily with a zipper back and can be worn from the beach to the pool and dinner after without a care in the world. The sweet chic shoes would look great with any summer dress or paired with jeans and an easy, breezy tank. Pick these summer staples up in nude at Net-A-Porter for $795.
You can’t spend everyday in platform pumps. Just ask Sarah Jessica Parker – her doctor told her that all of those years strutting around the Sex and the City set in heels actually created a bone in her foot. Truly disturbing. So let’s try some shorter heels on for size. To make up for the length-slimming effect of super high heels, I’ve chosen all pointed toe pumps like these cap-toed Prada slingbacks (at Saks Fifth Avenue for $650). The shorter, the more you can get away with – in this case, that’s metallic shine! Here are the best silver short stacks:
Jessica Biel sported the Manolo Blahnik Carolyne slingback pumps at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and looked like something out of a fairy tale. These metallic leather d’Orsay pumps are go-to celeb red carpet shoes as they are understated, yet classic and can be worn for a number of different occasions without being spotted as repeats easily. A 4 inch heel gives you a boost but not enough to make you topple you over, and this soft silver color makes them look like Cinderella’s Slipper. Jessica wore a Marchesa strapless gown with them that had a dramatic white feather plume and looked as elegant as a summer swan. Pick these up at Barney’s for $625 and get your Cinderella on.
Miley’s been getting some miles out of her Givenchy embellished suede sandals lately. She was spotted out in Hollywood wearing them with a leather T and jeans, then again on the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards in Vegas Sunday with a Balmain jumpsuit. These pretty little pumps are soft suede with a gold-tone heel cap and can clearly be worn from day to night with anything from jeans to a red carpet outfit. These pumps will be your go-to summer shoes. Head to Net-A-Porter and pick them up for $850.
I’m not much of a cross-dresser. The trend is menswear-inspired pieces, not full-on menswear. Maison Martin Margiela must have missed the memo with these oxfords. I’ll start by saying that I love the vintage vibe of spectator shoes. The silver-painted panel is an interesting touch, as are the metallic laces, but overall, this is just not for me. I prefer the more feminine oxfords from past seasons. These were made as replicas of actual men’s shoes from the ‘70s and I have to say, they did a very nice job of imitating the look. If only they had done as good a job of making me want to wear them! The brown and gold version is barely more palatable. I’m afraid I’ll remain a spectator. Available in black/silver and brown/gold at Barneys New York for $895 each.
