Gold is one of my favorite looks for warm weather. It looks great with a tan, gives a hint of color but is metallic and trendy and can be dressed up for a wedding or down for drinks. These DVF gold goodies are right up my alley. They have wide leather straps so not to pinch and pull with elastic on the ankle for comfort. I am so happy to see denim shoes making a comeback. There was the lone Bottega pair I spotted a while back, which was totally worth drooling over, and now there’s a flourish of great options.
I had a favorite pair years ago that I wore out just like I would my most prized pair of jeans. Hey, there’s something about denim. Now I can have multiples, just like my beloved jeans! You know it’s no good to wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row; they wear out faster and you really need to let them air out, not to mention give your feet a rest. Here’s the thing about the new flatforms: unlike the last spring’s straight styles, they are not perfectly flat. You still get the gist of totally flat chunkiness, but the new editions have some curve to the soles. Looks like designers realized that a completely flat heel makes us fall over! 5. Alice + Olivia Terry Suede Platform Sandal: Just barely making the flatform cut, these shapely sandals have chunk to spare. Luckily, it comes in the form of soft gold weave and evening-ready black suede. At Bergdorf Goodman for $345.

These basic little bows are made of burnished leather with sweet grosgrain ribbon trim complete with a subtle emblem to top them off. Flats are essential in a working girl’s wardrobe and nude is my go-to color for them when the weather warms up. These are perfect for those “I’m just going to wear black pants and a flowy top because I’m too tired to think about anything but a giant coffee” days. Slip them on with your trusty pair of Paige skinnies and an Equipment blouse and you are good to go all day in comfort. They would also be clutch for those day events you have that require something fancier than sandals but not heel- appropriate. When those affairs come along, pair them with a DKNY button up dress for a laid back-posh look.

True crafty concoctions possess a sense of down-home romance. The aesthetic hearkens back to a day when “craft” wasn’t merely cutting a scrap of leather and sewing it on for decoration. With artful details, like beading, macramé, and knitting, these sandals put the art back in arts and crafts. Some are ridiculously priced, especially for a shoe with every intention of appearing homemade. But it’s not like anyone will be arguing that you picked them up at Granny’s yard sale – and you can’t deny the artisanal work in them.

1. Chloé Crochet and Leather Flats: Crochet is now more than a fleeting (and reappearing) trend. It’s an elemental must. Chloé’s patriotic sandals have the right portion of city polish.

Pierre Hardy’s art-school roots are in full swing. There is certainly a lot of visuals going on here: multiple colors, nebulous shapes, snakeskin, and, of course, the cubist web, a trademark Hardy theme.

The shield of transparent cubes is reminiscent of the old arcade video game Q*Bert, which dates me and most of you won’t even know. But it gives the sandals a low-tech 3D look. Back in my youth (yes, because I am an ancient old lady), a three-dimensional effect was only made possible by crossing your eyes a certain way.

Wearable? Most definitely. These transfixing layers have enough personality to lend some to the rest of your outfit. But beware: you will have naysayers shaking their heads. Who cares! Isn’t that part of the fun of being out there? On My Theresa for $1,485.

I know I’m a blogger, but even words cannot describe how ugly I think these shoes are. I should just take a photo of my cringing face and post it. But nobody needs to see that – these shoes are enough punishment on the eyes – so I’ll give it my best shot.
Peek-a-toe fringe is not my idea of chic, nor sexy. If anything, fringe is meant for theatrical movement and volume, not partial coverage. Think about it: slide into these and your toes, no matter how perfectly polished, will peek out of this ghastly curtain like something out of a horror movie. Not to mention how much the loose ends are guaranteed to tickle the tops of your feet! And then there’s the squat, stumpy shape of this ultra-wide ankle boot. Ohhh, hello! Are we talking fall already? I’m not even in full summer-mode yet. Even though I’m still piecing together my new season’s worth of wedge sandals and woven totes, so far, I am liking what I’m seeing for post-Labor Day wear. However, I don’t want to skip ahead. I know it’s the nature of the ever-early beast (forget “fashionably late”), but come on. Summer is, of course, the best season, and besides, didn’t we just start the year? Why is time going by faster and faster?!

Putting emotions aside for the moment, I’ll admire these luxe, confetti-like pumps. Giuseppe Zanotti keeps on delivering, even into fall. Sometimes sequins on a shoe can look to rough or severe in all their coarse sparkle, but arranging them on a bed of velvet is delicious idea. Think New Year’s Eve and far beyond: lush and luscious burnt-out velvet topped with cluster-placed sequins and a golden platform is glamour and party in one neatly polished package. These oxford-style heels come in the color blocking trend with grey, ivory and burgundy leather with saucy cut out detail. The sexy shoes by Neil Barrett have a lace up closure and stand at a sensible 3.7″ high. These pumps are made to party and could also translate to the office if worn with the right look. I’m not even going to bother comparing these to the mother of all ocean-tastic shoes, Alexander McQueen’s hypnotic oyster-shell wedge. There’s just no point! But as I obsess over those fantastical, high-end platforms ($4,630, to be exact), it’s evident they have definitely planted a seed of desire, one that calls to me with a siren song.

Enter a different McQueen-take on the romance of the seashore and all the treasures it has to offer. These pumps don’t beckon with swerving, golden lines but with a wonderfully femme, pink-sand hue and layers of intricate suede with scaled perforations. Teeny, gold-tone beads are inserted in scattered measures all over the “scales,” creating the effect of pearls that are yet to be discovered. If these don’t bring out your inner mermaid, I don’t know what will! Happily, despite all of the oceanic romance they boast, they are totally, 100% wearable and versatile.
