Jimmy Choo Tippi Snake-Effect Leather Pumps: Eighties Baby
By Shoe Snob Kelly
November 10, 2011

Remember back in the eighties when designers like Stuart Weitzman were all about the metallic, stiletto-heeled pump? The bad-girl shoe of the Me Generation is back! Jimmy Choo didn’t make an appearance until the nineties, but it looks like Tamara Mellon is having a glitzy throwback moment.

Not that it ever exactly went away, but with platforms ruling the street for so many seasons now, I can safely say the spiked heel has returned with a freshly sharpened vengeance. It’s the classic ultra-pointy-toed shape, with a heel so lean it could pierce your heart; at 5”, it’s been pumped up to new-millennium heights. Then there’s the excessively excessive texture. Metallic fuchsia this searing would stand out in the darkest of nightclubs. With snake-stamping and laser-cutting to reveal mesh lace, it just doesn’t quit. Dynasty’s Alexis would be proud!

One thing that’s not so retro about these pumps? The price. If I’m going over a grand, I want my snake in python, not stamped form, thank you very much! On the bright side, 10% of net sales for the Tippi go towards the Jimmy Choo Foundation, which supports a number of women’s charities. On Net-a-Porter for $1,295.

Pair with: Turn these party shoes into power players with Yves Saint Laurent’s new take on the Muse Two. This top-handle tote showcases distorted herringbone tweed that’s been shellacked to the max. Yves Saint Laurent Muse Two Prince of Wales Tweed Tote, $1,695.
