Viktor & Rolf Open-Toe Ruffle Platform Pumps: A Ruffle in Time
By Shoe Snob Tina
October 11, 2011

Enter the wacky, weird world of Viktor & Rolf and be prepared for authoritative femininity, forceful frills and rigorous ruffles that make an unmistakably unusual impact. It’s one thing to try to be bizarre for the sake of getting attention, but it’s quite another when peculiarity is genuine and unintentional. That’s why the bizarreness of Viktor & Rolf is so refreshing!

For their Fall ready-to-wear collection, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren sent out an army of womanly knights, their faces painted bright red, wearing flared collars and belled sleeves, ruffles and pleats abounding. While much of the clothing isn’t exactly wearable, these pumps capture the outlandish edge of the show without going too far-out. Platforms with pleated patent-leather ruffles may not sound like the sexiest thing you can own, but in reality, they are. Like an undone corset or tumbling petticoat, these shoes dress up the foot in a most undressed manner. An open center, with just two discreet straps to keep your foot in place (one’s elastic for comfort), exposes almost the entire foot, so don’t neglect those pedicures! Endless frills surrounding you make for maximum girlyness, while the silhouette makes for an atypical bootie shape. Dare to be different, and think of wearing these pumps as playing peek-a-boo with foot cleavage.
On ShopBop for $1,075.

Pair with: Attain tailoring and volume – not to mention a big dose of color – with Burberry Prorsum’s smart and unusual wool coat, right off the Fall runway. Primary red stays prim through the body, then gains drama through the pleated waist and grand sleeves.
