Chanel 2012 Cruise Open-Toe Sandal-Boots: Hoofing It in Chanel

Perhaps the oddest element of Chanel’s 2012 Cruise collection, just shown in all its excessively luxurious glory on the French Riviera, were Lagerfeld’s hybrid boot-sandals, knee-high and be-thonged. Karl said he wants to challenge through his designs, and that he does! Somewhat hoof-like, they remind me of something out of Greek mythology, though a creature more along the lines of the animalistic centaur than beautiful Aphrodite. Only the most trend-hungry and wannabe fashion-forward girl would crave to have these on her feet (and up her calves), unless she’s a daring woman who is genuinely avant-garde and determined to be different. But, honestly, these slouchy, seamed sandal-boots just look unflattering and uncomfortable – with too much coverage for warm weather and a thong that doesn’t belong in fall.

  1. They’re very Margiela-esque. Looks like something your friend, Jane Aldridge, could pull off and with aplomb.

  2. I actually like the thong look better than peep toe on a shoe or boot.

however I don’t wear knee high boots.
