Flats that are not flat from Derek Lam

So many of us have been warned by our chiropractors to stay away from heels but yet still insist on wearing them at the risk of permanently damaging our backs, ribs and knees (yes I am talking about myself and my friends!).  I don’t know what it is (ok, I do know, it’s pure vanity) but flats just don’t do a dress justice– you feel dumpy, lumpy and in some cases, fat (unless you are my friend Corinne, who is 6 feet tall with legs that are 4 feet long).

But not to worry my vain shoe snobs, Derek Lam may have solved our crisis in a pair of flats that are not flat!  This d’Orsay style shoe has a 3″ stacked wedge with only a half inch pitch from the 2.5″ platform.  So it’s just like wearing flats, but better.

$590.00 at Saks Fifth Avenue

This is genius! I wonder how they look on. I hate the way my legs look in flats.

Mmm…I’m not sure about that platform…I always associate those uni-level platforms with Frankenstein’s monster clopping around (though I do adore Boris Karloff). I’m just shy of 5’4″, and I like almost flats (with a smidge of a heel-total flats kill my back!). I have two pairs of Tod’s flats/skimmers that are gorgeous and don’t look frumpy at all. Very Audrey Hepburn, I think. I’d definitely have to try these on to be convinced.

I will, Tina. :-) I don’t think I can find them where I live in Albuquerque, but I’m going to Denver for work (and shopping!) next week. I’ll drop by Saks at Cherry Creek Mall and see if they have them yet.

Flat platforms remind me of the Spice Girls in the 90′s. I think this shoe would be much better without the platform. I am 5’3″ and wear flats (I love being short, I can wear killer heels without towering over others).

Well, phewy. The Saks in Denver is closing and they had next to no shoes (oh the horror!!!)…no Derek Lams to be found to try on! Maybe I’ll have to just order them and give them a whirl. :-)
